I am upset.
I walk to the department today and see a sign posted outside. Normally I don't take note of that particular sign-board, but I took note today. It mentioned a tragic death of a HELP UC student on the 22nd of September. I asked around and got my answer (since the newspaper I subscribe to didn't mention anything about it).
A HELP UC International student was killed in Wangsa Maju over what appears to be a hate crime. As usual, the wonderful citizens of our ever tolerant country were extremely helpful. This case hits close to home. I may not have known the student, but it doesn't stop me from feeling hurt, embarrassed and outraged over the incident.
So this is what we've been reduced to... It's so hard to sort out what I'm feeling right now. On the one hand, I want to defend my country, and on the other hand, I happen to know that whatever bad parts it's shown, the truth is worse ten fold. We already have discrimination happening amongst ourselves, but for this to have happened is horrible. I can't imagine what that boy's mother must feel like: You send your son far away hoping to give him a better life with a higher education and he returns to you in a box.
And what is up with the damn "explanation" about the reason behind the attack? "Teach them a lesson"? Jesus. Way to prove a point.
This, dear friends, is how a Holocaust starts.
