I'm a scavanger.
Environmental conscience, frugal, cheap. Call it what you want. Fact is, I find things on the floor, and if in good condition adn reasonably useful, I pick it up.
You can imagine just how many stray pens, pencils, erasers, liquid papers and rulers I find on the floor. An occassional highlighter and coin will pop up once in a while and even marker pens. In fact, all my rulers that I own now (you know, those really ceplak plastice ones that are semi transparent one side and grey on the other) were found on the floor. I have a whole plastic bag full of erasers found on the floor adn many of them are of good quality.
I was bestowed the name of scavanger from a previous classmate whose huge, purple eraser I found on the floor one day and he reclaimed it two days later. ...It was a really nice eraser.
Anyway, I don't like to waste or throw away things that can still be used. Not food, stationaries or other stuff. Let's just say it's a lesson learned through experience, but that's a little digressing for another day.
Either way, my mother has the same habit. In fact, I probably picked it up from her since I was a wee lass. Yes, I am a lass no matter how many fools out there think I'm boyish. Well, damn them.
Right, digressing.
My mother has had me scavenge some pretty odd things thus far. Two ferns currently residing in our garden was saved from an untimely death through scavenging. A few chairs throughout the years and even a door was scavenged. Just last week, she had me salvage a chair for her from the side of the road. I'm technically just the worker who carries the heavy stuff into the car and then unloads. So far, the only thing we haven't brought home is the kitchen sink.
Tonight, she made me unload some things she's having transferred from one restaurant to another. Pictures, wall decorations, etc. One of those things she scavanged.
....
It was a bathroom sink.
A blue bathroom sink.
Maybe I should start making a check list as to what we find.
